Another pest that causes harm to your furniture is wood borers. Wood borers family belongings of beetles that eat and destroy wood. They are important in the tree business. They are usually found a few years after new construction. Their attack on wood can be seen through tiny pinholes. It turns wood into a mass of wood dust. Wood borer infestation is more likely to occur in areas with high humidity.
Borers are insects that can negatively affect wood. The larval (grub) stage through the wood damages the tunnels. The first signs of borer infection are small pinholes in the wood, as this is the hole where the adult borer has emerged from the wood. The adult will live only for a short time. After mating the female will inject her eggs into the holes of the wood.
Once the female lays its eggs in the holes of the wood, the larva feeds starch and other nutrients into the starch. In some timelines where sapwood has insufficient starch or its holes are too narrow for a woman’s fallopian to be immune to attack. However, favorable conditions such as high humidity and poor ventilation can open up wood holes and allow borer attack.
Borers have been known to attack old furniture and structural wood such as floors, beers and joysticks and roof wood.
How to know if you have Borers?
Anobium punctatum (common furniture beetle):
- These borers attack furniture, structural wood, flooring and decorative woodwork
- Prefer old, well seasoned wood, especially softwoods such as Baltic Pine or White Pine
- Attack some hardwoods, most notably Blackwood and imported English oak
- Prefer calm, humid conditions
Liquid borer (powder post borer):
- These borers produce a very fine powder dust similar to the consistency of talcum powder
- Attack some hardwood timber sapwood
- These borers causes severe structural weakening to the wood has a high sapwood content
Treatment:
Our borer treatment is applied to all accessible wood surfaces using the wood-saver boric acid treatment in roof void and / or subfloor areas. This treatment will kill adult beetles as they emerge from the wood before they have the opportunity to mating and reinvesting.
It can be eliminated by applying solvent-based insecticide bored fluid, also use of turpentine to avoid adults from laying eggs.
Wood Borer Prevention Tips:
When a wood borer infestation is ignored, they can potentially develop into a serious issue, such as damage to wood floors, doors and furniture. The following steps will help discourage wood borer:
- Wood-boring beetles are attracted to the moisture content in wood, trying to keep furniture, doors and wooden items dry.
- To prevent wood borer from breeding in cracks, seal cracks on wood surfaces.
- Remove infected wood to prevent infestation from spreading to another area.
